how to prepare MKX9550 (2)

the weather changed again, some people said there will be a huge rain on today or tomorrow. well, wish us luck.

here is the second revision notes of MKX9550, different from last one, it contains some key terms which needed to be remeber but not in the Week 13's lecture notes. these terms are important too, and also need to remember the details of these term. base on these two revision notes, i got 30 or more out of 40 in the last semester's MKX9550 exam.

Chapter 21: Tapping into global markets

1In deciding to go abroad, the candidate countries should be rated on three criteria: market attractiveness, the lower risk and competitive advantage.

2 Once a company decides on a particular country, it must determine the best mode of entry. Its broad choices are indirect exporting, direct exporting, licensing, joint venture and direct investment. Each succeeding strategy involves more commitment, risk, control and profit potential.

how to prepare MKX9550 exam (1)

well, yesterday, Apple released couple of new products, includes new iPod shuffle, new iPod touch, and some other new services, such as Ping.

and, yesterday, i read the unit outline of MKX9550 2010 semester 2. well, this semester has additional assignment compared with last semester. so, i chose study MKX9550 in last semester was a good choice.

OK, go to the point. to prepare the MKX9550 final exam, first, you need to read carefully about the lecture notes of week 13. in week 13, the teacher will hand out the revision notes, but these notes just laid out some basic thing of this unit. you need to make the revision notes by yourself. and in this blog, i put the week 13 revision notes, and next time, i will put another revision notes.

NB: you need to understand each term in the revison notes, not just remeber their names.

MKX9550 2008 exam paper (2)

I just answered 3 questions in this paper, becuase i was lazy...and i found these questions were not related what i have learned. maybe because the textbook was changed. I guess.

1. One of the major components of a marketing plan is the external environmental analysis. Describe the major elements of this environmental analysis (10 marks). Then explain the process you go through to draw conclusions from the analysis to enable you to set meaningful strategies later in the marketing plan. (10 marks)

External environment (opportunity and threat) analysis. A business unit must monitor key macroenvironment forces and significant microenvironment actors that affect its ability to earn profit. The business unit should set up a marketing intelligence system to track trends and important developments and any related opportunities and threats.

A marketing opportunity is an area of buyer need and interest that a company has a high probability satisfying. An environmental threat is a challenge posed by an unfavourable trend or development that would lead, in the absence of defensive marketing action, to lower sales or profit. To deal with them, the company needs contingency plans.

2. In marketing, perceptions are more important than reality. People can emerge with different perceptions of the same object because of three perceptual processes. List and briefly characterize those processes (10 marks). Further, marketing scholars have developed a “stage model” of the buying decision process. List and describe the five stages of this process using examples? (10 marks)

Perception is the process by which we select, organise and interpret information inputs to create a meaningful picture of the world. The key point is that it depends not only on the physical stimuli, but also on the stimuli’s relationship to the surrounding field and on conditions within each of us. People can emerge with different perceptions of the same object because of three perceptual processes: selective attention, selective distortion and selective retention.

1. selective attention: attention is the allocation of processing capacity to some stimulus. It’s estimated that the average person may be exposed to more than 1,500 ads or brand communications per day. Because we cannot possibly attnd to all these, we screen most stimuli out- a process called selective attention. Selective attention means that marketers must work hard to attract consumers’ notice.

2. selective distortion: selective distortion is the tendency to interpret information in a way that fits our preconceptions. Consumers will often distort information to be consistent with prior brand and product beliefs and expectations.

3. selective retention. Most of us don't remember much of the information to which we’re exposed, but we do retain information that supports our attitudes and beliefs. Because of selective retention, we’re likely to remember good points about a product we like and forget good points about competing products.

1. problem recognition

2. information search

3. evaluation of alternatives

4. purchase decision

5. postpurchase behaviour

capitalism, a love story

finanlly, i got one day off after finished several assessments. and last week, i got the result of my last MKX 9550's presentation, i got D. i was happy with that. also, in last week, i had AFF 5130 presenation, a group presentation. our company is called EBET, a small company which engaged in gambling. and the topic is acquisation. we needed choose a company to acquire EBET, and we choose Crown. but the tutorial said, the reasion why Crwon should acquire EBET is not very strong and direct. but i really did not buy it. but what should i say, nothing. maybe i did not enough research. another presenation was conducted yesterday, AFF 5100. also a group presentation, but i rarely involved in it, because my major duty of the group assessment is the assignment, but not the presentation. in the presentation is case stuedy- ABC learning. after reading the related material, i am so surprise that this company still operates in Australia. but maybe under new management. the Australian government bailout the company, but i do not know what happen now.ABC learning also operates in some areas in VIC, but just in some countryside, such as Gelong, not in Melbourne.
i watch a movie tonight, called "capitalish, a love story". i downloaded last month, but i did not have time to watch it before. it is really a long film, about 2 hours. i do not know why it called a love story. there is no scense about love. i think it is a documentory. generally, it talked about the stuff about capitalism. to be honest, i do not know what is capitalism, and what is socialism. in the movie, it calls Obarma is a socialism leader. in the first half of the movie, it stated several stories about American families. their houses is taken by the banks. and the second half of the movie, it generally about the subprime. and some subsequent events of the financial crisis. i do not know the story or the statements in the film is true or not, but it really impressed. such as the big companies- P & G, bank of Amercia and so on, buys the life insurece for their employees, but the beneficiary is not the employees' relatives, but the companies. so when the employee is dead, the companies can make profit through that. that is really terriable thing. the director of the film also think that the US government should not give the banks that much money, say 70 billion money, to help the banks pull through the financial crisis. but actually, the government did not know how banks spend that huge funds. the 70 billion dollars are from the taxpayer's pocket. also, the director thinks that free market is basical wrong thing. well, i do not think it in the same way. but it is really a hard thing for the government to find out the break-even point of the control and freedom of the market.
same days ago, there was an accident in Iceland- volcanic eruption. it affected the airline industry a lot. it lots a lot of money, around 1 billion US dollar. really a lot. what's wrong with the earth. so many tragedies.
today, i receive the letter from CPA, it states that i pass the migration assessment. well, i hope everything goes well.

first week

this is the first week after Easter Holiday, as mentioned before, i did not have holiday...

On this Monday, i had two assessments, an assignment, this was a group assignment, but we did not sure what we wrote about, especially in Portor's part. in this semester, i have three subjects all learned about Porter's five analysis. what an odd...and the same subject, i had a presentation, just 10 mins, but i was so nervous, i did not know why. i had notes in my hand, but i did not use that...but overall, i thought my presentation was fine, i will know my marks next Monday, i hope not bad, Hoho
Tuesday was fine, just normal lecture and tutorial, but next Tuesday, another presetation is coming...
Today, in the morning, MGX 9230, i have not finished that assignment, but the teacher said the deadline is next Monday, that's cool. Jeffrey is the teacher of MGX 9230, he is really nice. :)
tonight, a test, AFF 5100, it was really easier than i excepted. i spent less time to prepare this exam, because i think it just worth 10 marks, but i did answer all the question, i hope i can get 7 or something, wish me luck. and next Thursday... another presentation...so many presentations...
another news from China, China attacted from earthquake again, in Qinghai...i do not know the details...sorry for that... recently, so many earthquakes...and some people said 2012 is really coming... well, i do not know again...i hope everything is fine in China...when there is terrible thing happen, there always with donates, well , in some forums in China, people always want the Government can publish the donates funds in public, so that people can know how their donate spent. but, in fact, i do not know the details. but i rarely heard the Government put the details of the donate funds...transparency...transparency...
24, an American TV show, almost finishs, and some people said this will be the last season...this is really a good TV show, really...i hope there will be season 9.
tomorrow, i have to finish my MGX 9230 assignment...

holiday, end

today is the last day of the Easter holiday...
i do not think it is really a holiday for me, because so many assignments need to finish.
i just finish the maketing assignments.
there will be a test on next Thursday, it is AFF 5100, but i have not prepared for that.
and i have a presentation on tomorrow, but i have not remeber all the stuff.
the assignment of MGX 9230, i finished 2000 words, but there still needs 1500 words to go.
about AFF 5130, i learned nothing during the holiday..
i spent almost all the holiday time at home. i went to shopping for several times, but only for food. and got a haircut. that's all about my holiday. omg...what a pity...
MONASH...what shold i say...
wish me luck...

PS, it is getting cold now...autumn is coming
and i linked my youtube account to twitter account, that is fun

long break

middle break is comming, but i do not think it is really a break for me. so many assignments are due on week 6. there are about 4 assignments, i think.
among those assignments, i think the marketing assignment is the most easy one. there are only 2000, and that is a group assignment. but so far, i have worked for it for 1 and half days, only finished few of it.
and i almost finished my presentation of MKX 9550, but it still needs to be motified.
there is a small test, AFF 5100, that maybe hard, it just worths 10 marks, but needs a lot of reading.
the most huge one is MGX 9230, 3500 words, and i have no clue so far. the first thing i need to do is find a relative case. i will work on it after i finish MKX 9550
Daylight saving will be end at tonight. i can sleep one more hour tonight. LOL. but i do sleep a lot recently, maybe 10 hours. that is not a good news for me.
oh, the important thing is yesterday was good friday, and tomorrow is Easter day. and that is why we have middle break. when i was in VU, there were two weeks middle break in April, but in Monash, only one week. what a pity. i do need more break. i do not know why there is an Easter day, but i do know that's a religion festival. once, i watch South Park, it talked about Easter day, but i think that cartoon made fun of Easter day, but the fact. anyway, because of Easter day, i have long break, actually not too long.
i just remeber one thing, last week, on the tutorial of AFF 5050, i had a presentation, a group presentation, it just worthed 5 marks, but the whole presentation took 1 hour. so long. the presentation was about tutorial question, and the tutor said we did very good, almost all the answers were correct.
a news from real world, Australian government wants google blocked some results of research, but google refused. well, we will see what happen
anyway, happy Easter Day.

3/22/2010

last week

12 hours class in last week as usual, 4 units.
first one is MKX 9550. it stated a very important concept- Porter analysis. it will be shown on final exam, according to the teacher. in the lecture, it started with a video- google video. it introduced google adword, google adsense and Youtube. maybe most of people do not know that Youtube belong to Google. in some year, i could not remember, Google acquired Youtube. i have a Youtube account, i applied it in 2006 in China, but now you can not open Youtube in China in normal way, also you can not open Blogspot in almost places of China. in some news it said that Google will withdraw from China in April 10th. i do not know whether it correct, but i really not know what's the concequence of Google action. after that introduced some industry concept of competition. there are four forms of competition forms. Pure monoply, oligopoly, monopolistic competition and pure competition. the teacher said Australian Post is an example of pure monopoly in OZ, but i do not think so, besides Post, there are also other companies conduct post, such as TOLL. but the teacher said Post is the only one non-financial organisation which can deal with financial services. i think that is ture. and pure monopoly offen refers to regulation market. then go into Porter's five forces- industry competetion. potential entrants, substitutes, suppliers and buyers. and coincidentally, in AFF 5130 it also refers to this concept. after that, introduced some reletive concepts.at the end of lecture, it said something about global marketing, it refers to the assessment. a global firm is one that operates in more than one country and captures R and D, production, logistical, marketing, and financial advantages in its costs and reputation that are not available to purely domestic competitors. i think global firm is quite common now. then important concept- five models of entry into foreign market- indircet exporting, direct exporting, licensing, joint ventures and direct investment. licensing here means let other company to product your companies' product. in the tutorial of MKX 9550, just the presentation. and tutor stated the requirements of assignemnt again.
on Tuesday, AFF 5130. in this time, the female teacher teached in the lecture, i did not know why, because i was late for the class. in that lecture, a few questions were focused- why is industry analysis important, porter's 5 forces, competitive strategy analysis and corporate strategy analysis. there are three parts in strategy analysis- industry choice, competitive positioning and corporate strategy. in the industry choice part, it just about the Porters 5 forces. but it states in a different way- 1. rivalry between existing organisations. 2 threat of entry of new organisations. 3 threat of substiture porducts. 4. bargaining power of buyers. 5. bargaining power of suppliers. the first 3 forces determine the potential for profits, and actual profits depends on the last 2 forces. in the competitive positioning part, there are two generic competive strategies- cost leadership and differentiation. in the last part, it relevant to multi-business organisations. in the tutorial of AFF 5130. it just talked about the tutorial questions. and i noticed that the teacher post the tutorial question's answer on the Blackborad, that is good.
two classes on Thursday. MGX 9230, this time it relate to the assignment, but i have no idea about it. what a pity.it talked about policy cycle and seems not too hard, but i do not know how to start the assignment, where to pick up the case. that is the case...
the AFF 5100 is the last class in each class, but the most horrible one. the teacher requires a lot of reading before each class. for him, he thinks there are not a lot of reading, but for me, that really a lot. we are not English-spoken students, he will never figure out. we can not remember all stuff we read. what should i say. ai. in the first half of that class, it said something organisation structure.
to be continued

3/10/2010

come on

ok, i just do not know how to name the title, just pick it up by chance.
OK, talk about the class in this week. before that, i want to say that i make a mistake, i thought we would have 2 weeks Easter day break, but the true is that just one week. so i want to say... what the hell...
any way.
the first class is Mkx 9550. The tutorial came first. i did not think the teacher will teacher anything in the tutorial. why? just look at what happen in the last tutorial. at the beginning, the teacher asked wheather we read the case study. then gave us about 10 mins to read it. then she read it again, sentence by sentence. I did not know why she did that. anyway, then she asked what we learned from this case. then, a little discuss. then class dismissed. my point is that, that was the first case study of this semester, and in the following few weeks, all the case study will be presented by students through presentation which is one of the assessment. so maybe from next week, the only thing i should do in the tutorial is listening the presentation. what should i say, maybe just we will see...
then the lecture came, it was about customer value. i think it was just an outline of some key concepts, because the teacher said some concepts would be talked in details in following weeks. and the important thing in that lecture is "Michael Porter's generic value chain model", and it is a real old model, but still useful. but i do not understand the whole model now, i will work on it. also, the teacher talked about the assignment 1, i think it is not a hard assignment, but the the hard part is that we need to choose a company to analyse. if we choose a right company, the assignment is an easy one, but we choose a wrong company, well, it is hard to say. there are also some limit to choose the company, so far, i have no clue about which company should be choosed.
OK, about the AFF5130. i do not know what's wrong with me, but i feed that i always wrong in this subject. before the lecture and tutorial, i read the wrong chapital and prepared wrong questions for the tutorial questions. and after lecture, i go to a wrong room for tutorial...what the odd?
anyway, about the content in lecture, first it talked about the business structure, i think it is easy. and few concepts introduced, but most of these concepts are about finance. also some models introduced, the first one is about the relationship between information (news) and share price. we learn this relationship before. in common sense, bad news and good news can influence the share price. but in this unit, it focus on the stuff called "information asymmetry", and there is a model to calculate it. if one company get a small result, say 0.0002, it indacates that this company can be trust. at the end of the lecture, the rest model came out, they are all about how to calculate soe specific ratio. and these would be used in the assignemt.
in the tutorial, the tutor answered the tutorial questions, just some questions in the textbook. but because it took so many time on the allocated group stuff, not all the questions were finished, he will talked about the rest one next week.
OK, tomorrow has two seminar. AFF5100 is the harder one. So, wish me luck.

3/01/2010

first day

i do not like the title, it is a little hard for every posts uses different titles, and i could not make sure all the content in one signle post are around the title, i think just use the date is the perfect choice for the post. LOL
ok, today is the first day of the new semester, i have a class in the night, but not too late, 5-6PM for the tutorial and 6-8pm for the lecture. the new semester is beginning, so the school full of students as it should be. Monash has a lot of new students now, also a lot students graduate from Monash, i do not know wheather can call it turnover...
BTW,  i do not what's wrong with my internet of the home, sometimes it does not work recently. and some times one spot light flash unusual...
OK, go back to the  school topic.
the tutorial and lecture as the same unit- MKX 9550-Marketing and the international consumer. this is the first time i learn the marketing subject here, i think i have memtioned before. and the tutorial came first. there were about 20 students sit in the class room, and almost of them look like Asian, i thought i may be like accounting unit, most Aisan come from China. but after introduced themselives, i was shocked. 20 students, i thought it should be more than 20, may be 23 or 24, 8 or 9 are local. and 6 or 7 from Malaysia, one from Korea, one from Vie nam, one from Thailand, one from Philippines, one from Hong Kong, and just 4 from China, involed me...maybe Chinese students do not like studying Marketing ,  i do not know...so many Malaysian students in this course, it was a surprise. after introduction, the tutor handed out the unit outline, and said something about the assignment, then it class dismissed. oh, the tutor calls Kathryn Gardiner, a local, i think.
after tutorial, the lecture, Kathryn is also the lecturer for the evening class, but she is not the unit leader, the unit leader also shown up in the night class, but just talked about the object of this unit, and the assignment part. the unit leader is Indian, i guess, but of course, he certainly holds the OZ passport, but maybe original comes from Indian or some South Asian countries. he has Indian accent. some of my friends do not like India accent, well, for me, i neither like nor hate...i do not care about the accent, but sometimes it is difficult for me to understand the person who has Indian accent or others. i think this is the problem of mine, my English is not good enough to beyond this accent, i need to imporve. ok, in the lecture, the lecturer just talked about some basic concepts in the marketing area. talked about what is marketing, what is the marketing management. and also she said that this unit will learn the marketing as well as international consumers. i think "marketing" and "marketing management" these two concepts' defintions are not too hard, but i do not know how deep it can be, in another word, how board we need to learn about these two concepts. and teacher took a long time to talk about "deregulation", in my opinion, deregulation is like freedom, do what you can do in the market. and teacher said that financial market is a good example of deregulation. in an easy way, deregulation means every one can enter into the market without legal resistance. also, this unit also talk about CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility). i do not know whether it will learn the same content as accouting course...
in conclusion, not so many content in today's tutorial and lecture.
PS, in the lecture, there was few Chinese students.
